Many foreign students come to Japanese universities to study civil engineering
in an academic environment, but few have the opportunity to stay and learn
the practical side of Japanese civil engineering. Despite many efforts
on the part of universities and other organizations to give foreign students
opportunities to pursue employment in Japan, many barriers still exist.
In this special article, we have gathered the experiences of four foreign
engineers who, after graduating from concrete-related Ph.D. courses in
Japanese universities, were able to get employment at Japanese companies
or universities. Through their personal experiences and advice, we hope
that current foreign students can learn useful information for their own
future job-hunting activities.
