A seismic activity model of Japan and its vicinity is constructed for the probabilistic seismic hazard estimation. Large earthquakes in the subduction zone and earthquakes occurring on the major active faults are modeled with renewal process, while other earthquakes are assumed to be randomly occurring. Recent survey results of active faults are taken into account in this model.
