JSCE-VIFCEA Joint Seminar on Concrete Engineering

in Vietnam and Workshop

Japan Society of Civil Engineers(JSCE) – Vietnam Federation of Civil Engineering Associations(VIFCEA) held a Joint Seminar on Concrete Engineering in Vietnam and workshop in Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology under the Cooperation Agreement between JSCE and VIFCEA.

In the joint seminar held on December 8^th, following an opening speech by Dr. Chanh, Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology, and opening addresses by Dr. Le Van Nam, Vice-president of HCMUT, and Dr. Huynh Van Hoang, President of Ho Chi Minh’s Association of Civil Engineers, and Prof. Koji Sakai, the representative of JSCE delegation. In the workshop held on December 9th, following the opening address by Prof. Kyuichi Maruyama, Chairman of JSCE Concrete Committee, Prof. Koichi Maekawa introduced the activities of JSCE Concrete Committee. His presentation elicited many questions. From the Vietnam side, Prof. Lu, Hanoi University of Civil Engineering, and Prof. Boi, Centre for Construction Science Training and Technology Transfer, described the current state of the construction industry and technologies in Vietnam. Fruitful discussions were had for the promotion of collaboration between Vietnam and Japan. Eventually, the following Ho Chi Minh Declaration was adopted:

Ø JSCE-VIFCEA Workshop participants agreed to establish a committee on concrete specification.

Ø JSCE-VIFCEA Workshop participants make an effort to form collaboration network between Vietnam and Japan.

Ø To accomplish these agreements, both sides will take appropriate actions as soon as possible.
