DEVELOPMENT OF THE NON-DESTRUCTIVE TESTING METHOD FOR CONCRETE USING ELASTIC WAVE METHOD RELATED TO AE METHOD
Dr. Masahiro OTSU (Kumamoto University)
As for society activities, Dr. Otsu served as chairman of research committees TC-ACD212 and TC-MCM239 at RILEM (International Union of Laboratories and Experts in Construction Materials, System and Structures) which are international positions, and also as president of the West branch of JSCE, permanent member of the Concrete Committee, chairman of the editorial board of the Journal of the Japan Concrete Institute (JCI), and chairman of the special research committee on AE in the Japanese Society for Non-destructive Inspection (JSNDI). Thus he has made a significant contribution to the development of various professional societies. The JSCE recognizes these achievements as worthy of the Yoshida Award for Research Accomplishment.
Dr. Otsu has been a diligent researcher in the field of non-destructive testing methods and the Acoustic Emission (AE) method, with about 500 published papers, including 19 in the JSCE Journal, and 30 books including special issues and international proceedings. Particularly well known around the world are gCharacteristics and theory of the AE methodh (in Japanese) (Morikita Publishing), which is known as the textbook of the AE method, gAcoustic Emission Testingh (2008, Springer), and gAE and Related NDE in the Fracture Mechanics of Concreteh (2015, Woodhead). Dr. Otsu has been invited to give many lectures and presented with many awards, indicating the high esteem in which he is held at the international level.
